Humanitarian Alarm in Gaza: Drone Strike Kills Civilians, Political and Military Tensions Rise in Israel

June 11, 2025—Gaza City/Jerusalem

A major humanitarian crisis is deepening in Gaza after a drone strike reportedly launched by Israeli forces struck the Gaza office of Médecins du Monde, killing eight civilians, according to the international medical NGO. The attack has sparked global outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of humanitarian workers in the conflict zone.

Médecins du Monde condemned the strike, calling it a “devastating blow to humanitarian efforts” in Gaza, where aid organizations are already struggling to deliver medical supplies and support amidst ongoing hostilities. “This attack is not just an act of violence; it is a violation of international humanitarian law,” the organization said in a statement.

In response, the European Union has issued a stern warning to Israel against imposing banking restrictions that could lead to a total economic collapse in Gaza. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell emphasized that such actions would have “catastrophic consequences for civilians” and undermine any prospects for peace.

Adding to the turmoil, a group of 41 Israeli intelligence officers have publicly refused to comply with certain military orders, describing them as “clearly illegal”. The rare act of defiance has fueled debates within Israel about the legality and morality of current military strategies.

Domestically, Israel is also facing political instability. Growing divisions over military conscription—particularly the exemptions granted to ultra-Orthodox communities—are threatening to topple Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government. Analysts suggest early elections may be unavoidable.

Meanwhile, several hardline Israeli ministers have come under international scrutiny, with Western nations imposing sanctions on individuals accused of exacerbating tensions through inflammatory rhetoric and policy decisions. The move is seen as a signal of dwindling patience among Israel’s traditional allies.

As the humanitarian situation in Gaza worsens and political dissent grows within Israel, international observers warn that the conflict is entering a dangerous new phase with unpredictable consequences.
